We could all use a laugh — and now we can enjoy one while also saving pit bulls.
On April 30, Stand Up For Pits, a nationwide organization that works to end the abuse and discrimination of pit bulls, is holding its annual comedy night in New York City.
Hosted by SNL’s Katie Rich, the line up up includes Janeane Garofalo, Def Jam’s Wil Sylvince and Matteo Lane, along with Stand Up For Pits founder, Rebecca Corry, a comedian who has found her passion saving pit bulls after meeting her pibble, Angel.

“Angel came into my life eight years ago and changed the trajectory of it. I became very educated very quickly as to the horrors and discrimination pit bull ‘type’ dogs endure every single day in our country and around the world,” says Corry. “So, for eight years now, I have been doing all I can every day to help end abuse, discrimination and save lives.”
While Angel is no longer with us, her presence is still felt at these events, and beyond.
“Watching the thousands of people around the country who loved her and have been inspired by her is truly moving and a reminder that good people far outweigh the bad,” Corry writes on her site.
For the New York City event, Stand Up for Pits has teamed up with local animal shelter Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn.

There will be silent auction items, including trips, gift baskets and art, to help Sean Casey, along with a donation drive, in which all shelter supplies will go the Brooklyn shelter. Last year Stand Up for a Pits raised $39,000 for shelters nationwide through its donation drive, and hopes to surpass that figure this year.
The event, at Gotham Comedy Club, kicks off at 4 pm, with an adoption event featuring pit bulls needing homes. The silent auction will be throughout the night, while the main event starts at 7:30.
Tickets cost $40, and the proceeds will go towards Stand Up For Pits Foundation. There is a two-drink minimum. The address is 208 West 23rd St., New York, NY 10011. Tickets can be bought here.
