We take dogs everywhere. From running errands to grabbing a bite at a cafe and taking a stroll, they are always by our sides.
And last week in London, dogs were able to enjoy a pup-friendly bus tour.
Coined the “world’s first ever city bus tour designed for dogs,” pooches and their owners were able to board a bus, cheekily named K9, on a sight-seeing tour that offered one-hour of commentary on places that have “a historical connection to canines.”
Some of the landmarks on the tour included Buckingham Palace, the home for Queen Elizabeth and all her corgis; the city’s only dog cemetery and the House of Parliament, where laws, including those for pups, are presented.

And when the bus passed one of those famous spots, the factoids from the tour guide were related to dogs. For instance, when it went by the Buckingham Palace, the guide said:
“Queen Elizabeth II has owned more than 30 corgis during her reign and currently has one named Willow. Three of her Corgis even made an appearance when James Bond (portrayed by Daniel Craig) arrived at Buckingham Palace to escort the Queen to London 2012 opening ceremony.”
And if the dogs were feeling a little restless, they, along with their owners could jump off and check out some dog-friendly spots, like Kensington Palace Gardens, where Prince William, Princess Kate, their two children and dog Lupo reside.
There was also a handy dog-friendly map of restaurants, pubs and bars.

The tour began last Monday and was a limited ordeal — running three times a day for four days. In total, 160 dogs and owners got to be part of it. It was put on by More Th>n insurance, which provides pet coverage, to promote its newest offering: Doggyssenti>ls, a service that delivers dog essentials, including poop bags, treats, flea treatments and a toy or shampoo each month to its members.
“The tour bus for dogs was a great way of showcasing how to make the most out of living in London with a dog — providing information on London’s top dog trivia, as well as dog friendly places to go with your pooch,” Rachel Aldersley, a spokesperson for More Th>n, tells This Dog’s Life.
And the dogs seemed to really dig it. “Considering the dogs on the bus had never met each other before they were really chilled out and just really enjoyed looking out the window at the views, while their owners enjoyed finding out about new places to take them on their next walk!” she added.
While the bus tour was most likely a one-time thing for More Th>n, it will most likely roll out something new for us, and our dogs, to drool over.
