Starbucks has the Puppuccinos, Shake Shack has the Pooch-ini and In and Out Burger has the Puppy Patty. But now there’s a drive thru solely for your pup.
Reportedly the first drive thru for dogs, Bane & Vader’s in Easton, Penn. is reinventing dog bowls by letting owners build their own “Bowwow Bowl.”
Similar to Chipotle, owners start out picking a protein base – salmon, ground beef, turkey or chicken – and then choose two vegetables, including carrots, peas or cooked squash. The bowl also includes a choice of grains, along with a selection of toppings – yogurt, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter or cottage cheese. (There is even grain-free and raw options, too.)
Bane & Vader’s teamed up with Freshpet, an all-natural pet food line, to provide a balanced meal. Founder Amanda Brown chose the additional toppings after doing research on what human foods are good for dogs.
“The most popular meal thus far is a combination of Freshpet’s Beef and Bison with sweet potatoes and peanut butter on top,” Brown tells This Dog’s Life.
Brown, who has a background in biology, decided to open Bane & Vader’s, named after her two bulldogs, after reading the article “Fast food is going to the dogs: Survey.”
“It stated that 1 in 6 people go through the human drive-thru’s specifically to get their dog something to eat,” says Brown. “I thought to myself, ‘wouldn’t it be awesome if we had a place just for our dogs?’ This is where it all began.”
And the concept seems to be a hit.
“I absolutely love seeing the dogs’ reactions when they come to the window — they often try climbing right it,” says Brown. “The owners are excited to be there because they are doing something fun and healthy for their pups; the dogs can’t wait to try the box that was made specially for them and we love learning about the owners and their dog as well — win-win for all.”
The standard grain bowls range from $2.99 to $4.99, whereas the grain-free or raw bowl will cost you a little bit more.
Moving forward, Brown is looking to expand Bane & Vader’s to other cities. So, keep your eyes peeled.
