Animal organization Foster Dogs NYC is looking to promote dogs in foster care and help them get more attention in the community with its first-ever “Pack Walk” this Sunday in Central Park for both pets and those looking for their forever home.
“It is a great way to socializer a foster dog and get the word out, as sometimes dogs will be in foster care for months and months before anyone shows a sign of interest,” says founder Sarah Oren Brasky. She adds that this event is a great creative option for those pups that are being fostered by nonprofits that don’t allow their pups in dog parks due to safety concerns or pooches that may not do well in off-leash setting. “When dogs are walking together they are in pack, and their frustration goes down, resulting in a positive experience for everyone.”
The walk is a casual event that will begin at the Strawberry Fields entrance (W. 72nd Street) at 3:00 pm. Feel free to bring your own dog, a foster pup or roll solo.
The event in part came to fruition because of Foster Dogs NYC’s unique position in the rescue community. It doesn’t actually foster dogs but rather is the liaison between animal nonprofits and people interested in fostering. Because of this, the volunteers are aware that because of circumstances, foster dogs aren’t always socialized or learn the skills to interact with other pups. They are hoping to help change this with the Pack Walk. (You can RSVP here for it.)
Besides this fun event, Foster Dogs NYC has been busy this year working at building stronger bonds with its current partners and building new ones. Recently, they also partnered with BarkBox to bring more adoptable dogs to corporate events. What a better way to break the ice than with adorable adoptable pups that are in need of the attention from the community to help them get adopted?
If you aren’t able to make this event but love being around dog lovers, Foster Dogs NYC will be hosting “Foster Bar Night” on Oct. 14 and Nov. 18 at the Village Pourhouse (64 3rd Ave in Manhattan) from 7 to 9 pm. It is a great time to kick back, enjoy a beer and get to know other dog enthusiasts in the community. Plus a portion of the drink tab will be donated to Foster Dogs NYC.
