A dog food brand has issued a voluntary recall due to possible salmonella contamination.

The Alabama-based Sunshine Mills issued the recall of its Nature’s Menu Super Premium Dog Food with a Blend of Real Chicken & Quail after a sample tested positive for salmonella, a bacteria that “can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products,” the FDA said in a press release last week.

The move comes after the Georgia Department of Agriculture tested a sample and found it contained salmonella. It was noted that only one bag of many tested positive for it.

TE2 22/April/2020, TE3 20/April/2020, TE3 21/April/2020, TE3 22/April/2020.
The product comes in a 13.5-pound bag with the following lot codes:

If a dog gets infected with salmonella, she may become tired, have bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. She may also experience a loss of appetite or abdominal pain. If worried, take your dog to the vet.

If a human gets infected with salmonella, he may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and fever. In rare cases, a person may get arterial infections, arthritis, eye irritation, urinary tract symptom, endocarditis and muscle pain.

A mild bleach solution can help clean areas where possible contamination occurred.

Sunshine Mills is asking retailers to pull its dog food from shelves, while urging consumers to discontinue Nature’s Menu Super Premium Dog Food with a Blend of Real Chicken & Quail and return the unused portion for a refund.

If you have more questions, you can contact Sunshine Mills at 1-800-705-2111 from 7AM to 4PM CT, Monday through Friday, or by email at customer.service@sunshinemills.com.
