To celebrate a huge milestone, the ASPCA is challenging all of us to give back to the animal world.
Yesterday, it launched 150 Days of Rescue to commemorate its 150th anniversary. The national campaign has a goal of reaching 150,000 actions for animals in 150 days. So anything from volunteering at a local shelter to talking to people about animal-welfare issues and fostering an animal in need, helps the ASCPA fulfill its mission. For those who log their good deed on the website, they have the opportunity to nominate a shelter or organization for a $150,000 grant.

“We wanted to come up with a concept in which the public could be empowered to improve the lives of animals,” says Olivia Melikhov, the senior manager of social media at the ASPCA. “By taking actions for animals, we believe that people will feel more connected to improving the lives of animals in our society.”
Martha Stewart, Keisha, Edie Falco, Nathan Lane, Julie Bowen 50 Cent, Jason Schwartzman and Krysten Ritter have all thrown their support behind the 150 Days of Rescue challenge. In a video featuring these celebs, they, along with others, lend their voice to give animals a voice. Speaking about such issues as dogfighting, adoption, fostering and spaying and neutering, the high-profile people are carrying the organization’s message, “Animals can’t speak for themselves, so for 150 years the ASPCA has been a strong voice for them.”
