With the winter months upon us, one woman quit her job to help dogs stay warm during the chilly season.
Jan Brown (aka Knitty Jan) has been knitting sweaters for lean-breed dogs like greyhounds and whippets since 2008. The UK resident began knitting cozy sweaters, along with scarves and hats for Greyhound Rescue Northeast in the county of Tyne and Wear. But after demand increased, the fifty-two-year-old decided to quit her job in 2012 and work on her passion project full time. Brown launched Knitted With Love, a website where owners can purchase custom-made cozy clothes for their pup, with profits going towards making sweaters for dogs in rescue organizations across the U.K. Prices range from £15 for hats and neck warmers ($23) to £35 ($53) for extra large sweaters .
“Jan’s been absolutely amazing for us – she’s saved us a lot of money that we need to spend on vet bills for our greyhounds,” Kerry Elliman from the Birmingham Greyhounds Protection told Metro.

Brown has devoted more than 4,000 hours knitted but she loves it. “I can’t think of anything I would rather do than knit woolly clothing for dogs,”Brown tells the outlet.
With the holiday season upon us, Brown likes to jazz things up and create festive sweaters for rescues to make them feel special. “There are so many dogs that won’t be rehomed this Christmas so for many of them it’s the only gift they will get.”
