Supermodels Play Second Fiddle to Dogs at This Runway Show

With a reputation of always being over the top,  fashion designer Anthony Rubio did not disappoint during this year’s New York Fashion Week. The self-proclaimed pet couturier presented his spring canine collection, along with his women’s wear line.

Inspired by his travels to Paris, Rome and the Amalfi Coast, fashionista dogs strutted down the runway at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall, while the models (aka their handlers) acted more as second fiddle. “In my world the humans are the accessories,” Rubio says.

The pups that participated in the event were Rubio’s Chihuahua’s Bogie and Kimba, along with Instagram celebrity dogs including Chloe Kardoggian, Mochi, Gizzy, ZZ and Marshall. Pastel colors, along with lace, dominated the collection with Rubio describing it as “affordable luxury with much panache.”

“My favorite part is the audience’s reaction when the first models come out and they realize there are dogs in fine attire,” says the designer. He continues, “but my standout favorite was when Magneto the Leonb [very large dog] came onto the runway. There was a collective gasp followed by applause.”

The pet couture starts at $200, while his women’s line is priced at $300 and up.
