While we love our dogs every single day of the year, today is the actual holiday to celebrate our four-legged friend.

Called “National Love Your Pet Day,” the day is meant to shower your dog (or other pet) with some extra love and affection. It is the perfect time to pamper or pooches and let them know how important they are in our lives.

Check out some of our favorite social media posts celebrating “National Love Your Pet Day”:

Our founder shares her love for Lola on National Love Your Pet Day … ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Often, my photos are of Milo, our recent rescue mix. He loves the camera and is just a clown. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But there is always a strong lady right outside the picture: our senior dog Lola, our rock. At 13, she has been with us for nine years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We rescued her from a shelter in St. Paul after she was found wondering the streets. Her teeth were worn down, with the vet believing it was because she either chewed on a chain to escape or ate rocks when she was hungry. For a long time she was scared of any big movements, especially if we raised our hands — using rolling on her back. She didn't like the crate (lasted one night) and has never been a huge snuggler, despite trying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Despite, what I am guessing was a rough start in her life, she has provided our household so much stability. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She has accepted all the animals we have welcomed into our house, always being poised and graceful. She has shown them the ropes and what is accepted in our house. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She holds her own, not being intimidated by any dog she meets. She is vocal when it is treat time and barks at us to be quiet when it is time for her to sleep. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Despite her getting older, she is still the queen and is treated like one every single day.
