A bichon frise named Mordy is one lucky dog.
A Portland, Ore. man caught the 5-year-old dog after it fell 14 stories from the balcony in a high-rise apartment.
Resident Ted Nelson was looking outside his apartment window when he noticed the dog had climbed the balcony railings and was on the small ledge. “You could tell it was distressed,” Nelson told KGW.

Realizing this situation could quickly turn heartbreaking, Nelson ran across the street and planted his body right under Mordy. It is a good thing he did, as the dog eventually slipped.
“I just looked up at it and it was looking at me and it landed right in my chest… caught it for a minute, kind of fell, it did hit the ground. It let out a yelp but it was a huge relief to hear it yelp,” he continued.
Nelson and his girlfriend took the dog to the vet and fortunately, Mordy only suffered minor injuries.
His owners, obviously grateful for Nelson’s quick thinking, were also very traumatized by the possibility of losing their dog.
