Watch the Robot Dog Bust a Move to ‘Uptown Funk’

Share
A yellow robot dog is busting a move in a room.

The robot dog is at it again, but this time it is busting out the moves.

Named SpotMini (its older brother is named Spot), the robot, developed by robotics firm Boston Dynamics, can now dance. Yep, you heard it right: a dancing robotic dog. The robodog can move its hips, go side to side and even moonwalk to Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s song “Uptown Funk.”

The robot probably has more rhythm than most of us (including myself) due to its perception sensors, mobility technology and navigation capabilities.

While the robot – and its abilities – are fascinating, it is not nearly as strong as its brother. Last week, the company put out a video showing Spot moving around a building site. There are reported plans it will be next year, with a possible focus on construction sites.

If you recall, SpotMini made headlines earlier this year when it fought back against a human trying to stop the robot from going through a door. (It was a battle to be seen.)

While all these new skills by SpotMini are entertaining, some people are a bit worried about the advancements. Vice wrote, “I Don’t Care if This Robot Dog Can Dance, It Will Still Kill Us All.”

And some of the comments on the YouTube channel back that up.

“At least we can watch them dance when they take over.”
— Krishnan unni

“Practicing the celebration dance? I wonder why, what might the robots celebrate in the future?”
— x502

While others, enjoyed it:

“Okay, and now the Macarena”
— Altro5032

“That moment you realize a robot dances better then you do”
— Jack Leclair

What do you think? Harmless or harmful?
