Broadway show Tuck Everlasting is putting on a special performance that will not only entertain but also help out dogs in need.
On May 14, sales from tickets to the musical will benefit Rock & Rawhide, a nonprofit that aims to increase adoptions by providing shelters toys, chew items and bones – all used for distraction therapy to reduce stress.
The event will include a “pre-pawty” between 6:30 and 7:30 pm and then onto the main event at the Broadhurst Theater: the sentimental show, which begs the question, “Would you drink from the fountain of youth?”
Tuck Everlasting is based in the 1975 book by Natalie Babbit. The story line centers around 11-year-old Winnie living in Treegap, New Hampshire with her widowed mother and nana in the beginning of the 20th century. After feeling trapped by her overprotective mother, she decides to run off into the woods and stumbles upon Jesse Tuck, along with his family. There she learns about the brood’s secret: a hundred years ago they drank from the fountain of youth and haven’t aged since. Winnie has to decide should she too drink from the magical spring and live forever, or forgo it.
To date, it has been hailed by Entertainment Weekly, Time Out New York, The Associated Press, along with being The New York Times Critic Pick.
Guests can purchase orchestra tickets for $125 (originally $147), or for $155, attend the 8 pm show, along with a pre-pawty at Etcetera Etcetera (one block from the theater) in the Piano Room. Guests who choose to attend the pre-party will get to enjoy one hour of unlimited Prosecco, wine and soft drinks; passed canapés including small puff pastry pizza, saffron scented risotto croquette and grilled skewered chicken tenders and the opportunity to meet celebrity pooch Baby Howard (the event isn’t dog friendly, sorry!).
Every purchased tickets will automatically be entered into one mega raffle, where someone can win an amazing package including Tuck Everlasting swag, Rock & Rawhide loot, a one-night stay at Langham Place (value $900), an Express gift card worth $500 and more.
All proceeds from the tickets will go back to Rock & Rawhide, with a goal to continue to provide toys and supplies to shelter dogs (and cats) in the hopes they will be less stressed in their environment.
