These Tick and Flea Medications Are Causing Seizures in Dogs

As dog parents we are always trying to keep our dog safe and happy, but a new report by the FDA states we may be doing more harm than good when it comes to flea and tick prevention.

The government agency warns against drugs in the Isoxazoline class, saying they can potentially cause seizures and other neurological side effects.

FDA-approved products in this class include Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard and Simparica.

While most dogs (and cats) won’t have any effects, the agency warns that some animals could experience seizures, tremors and complete loss of muscle control – even if they have no prior history of these disorders.

The FDA recommends talking to your veterinarian to see what flea and tick options are best for your dog.

If you think your dog may have had adverse effects from these flea and tick products, visit your vet immediately. Also, report it to FDA or the manufacturer, which is required to share these complaints with the government agency.
