The Top Dog Names for Pups Living in New York City Revealed

The dog names Max and Bella reign supreme when it comes to New Yorkers.

The city health department released its annual list of dog names registered and Max and Bella topped the list.

There are 1,073 male pups names Max, beating out the second-place name, Rocky, by more than 300. For females, the race was a bit closer. The number of dogs with the name Bella is 1,127, while Lola came in second with 995.

This top dog names, Max and Bella, are aligned perfectly with the most popular names of dogs in the entire U.S.

In terms of the borough with the most dogs, Manhattan comes in first, grabbing 35 percent of the pie, followed by Brooklyn (25 percent), Queens (21 percent), Bronx (10 percent) and Staten Island (9 percent).

The department also found that the most popular fruit name for a dog is Olive (apparently olives are fruit), most popular vegetable/herb/spice name is Ginger and the most popular flower name is Daisy.

The rankings came from the database of 84,000 dogs registered in New York City for the year 2015. This is only 20 percent of dog owners living in the city, as the rest are unregistered.
