The American Kennel Club Recognizes Two New Breeds

The American Kennel Club is saying hello to two new breeds. The tk organization just announced it is now recognizing the American hairless terrier and the sloughi (prounounced SLOO-ghee), meaning both can compete in AKC shows and competitions.

“We’re excited to welcome these two unique breeds into the AKC family,” AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo said in a statement. “Both breeds make wonderful companions for the right family.

The sloughi, also known as the Arabian hound, is known for being “reserved, graceful and noble,” according to the organization. The dog is medium sized and has high energy.

The American hairless terrier, on the other hand, is energetic, inquisitive and observant.

The AKC now recognizes 189 breeds.
