Pet food maker Stella & Chewy is voluntarily recalling some of its food products after Listeria was found it in its chicken freeze-dried dinner patties for dogs.
In a routine test, the Maryland Department of Agriculture discovered a positive test for the bacteria and issued a stop sale order.
Listeria is a bacteria found in dirt, water and certain animals – including chicken. Older adults, those with a weak immune system and pregnant women are most susceptible to becoming infected with Listeriosis (caused by Listeria), which can cause flu-like symptoms and could lead to death.

The Wisconsin-based company stated on its website that there have been no reports of pets or humans becoming ill from its products. But are taking extra safety precautions. Besides the chicken freeze-dried dinner patties, the company is pulling additional products from the shelf that may have been exposed to the bacteria (but have not tested positive for it).
To determine if a product is part of this recall, consumers need to look at the UPC code label. (A full list of products and codes are available on the Stella & Chewy website.) If indeed the produce is part of the recall, they can return it to the location where they purchased it for a full refund or should throw it away.
