As Portugal shelter is at risk of closing, soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is providing a helping hand.
The star for Real Madrid donated a signed jersey to Cantinho da Lili kennels in north Portugal, as it struggles to remain open. The shelter, like many, often takes in dogs in need of expensive treatments, and it can be a challenge to cover those costs, along with maintenance.
“I want to thank Ronaldo from the bottom of my heart,” owner Liliana Santos told Correrio de Manha.
The starting bid was 500 euros, or a little more than $500.
This isn’t the first time Ronaldo has stepped up for charitable organizations. He is the global artist ambassador for Save the Children charity and reportedly donating his golden boot to help schools in Gaza in 2012.
