With millions of dogs in shelters, and tens of millions of Americans having physical, mental or neurological disabilities, an upcoming show is looking to provide a solution for both.
Called Rescue Dog to Super Dog, the series making its debut on Animal Planet later this year, will feature a shelter dog given a second chance by providing a helping paw to someone in need.

During each show, dog trainers Laura London and Nate Schoemer meet with a person in need of a dog to assist them — either mentally, physically or neurologically. Once they discuss the tasks the dog must be able to do, the trainers visit a shelter looking for a pup they believe has the personality and drive to meet the requirements.

After they choose the special dog, the pup heads to his new owner’s home to bond and see if they are a match.
Once the trainers get the green light, it is time to work. London and Schoemer train the dog over a few weeks period to learn the skills needed to help his new owner. It can be anything from learning to open a door to detecting panic attacks. After his obedience period is complete, the dog begins his new life.
The unscripted show is expected to be released in the fall.
