Every year in China, the Yulin Dog Meat Eating Festival occurs, where it is reported that 10,000 dogs are slaughtered so people can consume them.
The Humane Society International (HIS) and many other animal-welfare organizations (and people) are trying to put a stop to this yearly occurrence. And now Ricky Gervais has stepped up to the plate and is supporting the HIS’s efforts and encouraging people to sign a petition.
Tweeting some graphic images to his 8.6 million Twitter fans, Gervais posted several tweets expressing his disgust with the festival, process and people that participate in it.
The animal organization told Fox News that it is very appreciative of Gervais’s efforts on this campaign and others.

“HSI has worked with Ricky for quite a few years now on a number of our animal campaigns, he’s an incredibly passionate advocate for animals and shares our determination to stop cruelty, so he’s a natural fit,” Humane Society EU International Communications Director Wendy Higgins told the outlet.”He’s tweeted for us about our campaigns to end the dog meat trade before, but this year is the first year we’ve teamed up with him to appeal directly to the public on a wider scale.”
