Popular Dog Treat Gets Taken Off Shelves in Recall

A package of Good 'n' Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks dog treats.

The company behind “Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks” voluntarily recalled the great after they may have possibly been contaminated with Salmonella.

The product is distributed by Salix Animal Health and was sold at Dollar General and Dollar Tree retail stores.

The products that are recalled are from a 2.8 ounce package with lot # AO15010 stamped on the back. The expiration date is 03/2018 and the UPC code is 0 91093 82247 1.

We take our responsibility to pets and their owners seriously and as a result we are investigating the cause of this problem so that we can prevent it from occurring in the future. Salix Animal Health, is also working with retailers to ensure that the affected product is no longer sold and removed from inventory.

To date, there have been no pet or consumer illnesses reported.

Signs of Salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever. More serious symptoms include arthritis, muscle pain and urinary tract infection.

Pets that have been affected by Salmonella, may be tired, have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some animals will have a decreased appetite, fever and stomach pain.
