Looking to make Los Angeles a no-kill shelter, rescue groups in the area are holding the first annual “Paws in the Park(ing lot)”

Occurring on March 5 at nonprofit pet store Adopt & Shop in Culver City, the mega-adoption event is looking to help dogs (and cats) find their forever home, while raising awareness about the need to step up and help shelter animals.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come out and support adorable homeless pets in our city, without picking and choosing one shelter or rescue over the other,” Aimee Gilbreath, the executive director of Michelson Found Animals, the organization behind Adopt & Shop, told This Dog’s Life. “We are all working toward the same end goal, which is to find pets their forever homes and this event brings dogs and cats of all breeds, ages, sizes and personalities to one place at one time, to help make that a reality.”

The free event will have seven rescues on hand — Adopt & Shop, Wag & Walks, Angel City Pit Bulls, Downtown Dog Rescue, Stray Cat Alliance, Kitten Rescue and Spay Neuter Project of Los Angeles — and will have a number of services, including a free microchip scan.

Across the board, all rescues will have the same adoption fees – $325 for puppies, $225 for dogs and lower fees for cats — while incentivizing people to welcome a new friend into their home that day. The first five people who rescue a dog, will get a swag bag, including treat, food and toys (same goes for cat adopters).

Also, other services are jumping in to give a helping hand for adopters. Adopt & Shop is offering a free one-day dog daycare voucher at its Culver City location, along with coupons and ear-cleaning special.

Looking at all those cute animals can make people thirsty. So, on hand there will be Margo’s Bark Soda Co., a beverage company that donates 100 percent of their profits to help shelter dogs and rescue organizations.

The free event is from March 5, 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm at 4235 Sepulveda Blvd.
