When the vet told Lauren Fern Watt her best friend and partner in crime Gizelle, a 160-pound English Mastiff, only had a few months left to live, she set out to make it the best time of her dog’s life. She created a bucket list of all the amazing places she would take Gizelle.
“Doing a bucket list for Gizelle not only helped me cope with losing her, it was also one wild ride,” she shared with Life With Dogs. “It helped me live in the present and see life for what it truly is: a sweet, simple, precious adventure.”
Here are a few of our favorite.

Hanging at Washington Square Park
Fern grabbed her big love bug and headed to New York City’s Washington Square Park (the place where the iconic Harry Met Sally scene was shot). The duo spent the entire day meeting all sorts of people including a man with a huge face tattoo and a woman donned in a red kimono feeding the pigeons. Oh, and a man strumming his guitar who sang to them. Not a bad day.
Rowing a boat up in nature
Having an affinity for The Little Mermaid, Fern and Gizelle decided to reenact the famous scene where Prince Eric takes Ariel on a boat ride. Well, it didn’t exactly go as planned. There was some wobbles, a spider and a bit of confusion but when Fern saw Gizelle really take in nature, she knew it was worth it.

Lobster time in Maine
The duo traveled to Maine to find the perfect lobster, which they oddly enough found in a grocery store. After letting her pup hang with the two lobsters for a bit, she ended up eating them in the best way possible by being fed “hot buttered lobster chunks with a fork.”
Getting in as much cuddle time as possible
Once a person who wouldn’t allow her gentle giant on the bed or wasn’t too into big slobbery kisses, Fern decided to do away with these boundaries. She deserved to do what she wanted. “She helped teach me that love is the most wonderful gift I can receive, and it is the best thing I have to give,” Fern told the outlet.
