Fashion Week will be hitting New York City on Feb. 10 and is expected to showcase the trends for fall and winter of 2016.

While designers like Alexander Wang, Nicole Miller and Carolina Herrera will be showing off their latest collection with leggy women walking the catwalk, one show will be defining the word “model” a little bit differently.

On Feb. 14 dog models will be joining their beautiful human counterparts in strutting their stuff down the runway for Anthony Rubio’s show, which will highlight not only his women’s collection but also his canine couture.

“More and more there are dog events happening and those invited should arrive looking their best,” he says.

And while other designers tend to have dogs act as an accessory for the models, for Rubio, it is the other way around.

“I must emphasize that in my show the dogs are not accessories but companions,” he says. “The humans are the accessories, because in life man’s best friend enhances and teaches us how to best live.”

The event will kick off at 6:00 pm at Gotham Hall in Manhattan and will have the who’s who of the dog world – including his own fashionable dog muses Bogie and Kimba; Instagram stars Mochi, Chloe the Mini Frenchie and Marshall; clients’ animals and pups in need of a home – a cause that is part of his show’s mission.

“It’s about advocating for those who can not speak for themselves and who have been surrendered or abandoned for whatever reason or excuse,” he says.

While the purpose for the event is to show off his latest collection, which will have an an eclectic and mod vibe, Rubio is hoping people get more out of it than just the latest fashion.

“This is intended to have the attendees and participants enjoy a real feel good moment. Everyone should walk away with a smile.”
