Meet Mochi: The Dog With the Longest Tongue in the World

Share

This dog has tongues wagging after setting new record.

Mochi, an 8-year-old St. Bernard, just broke the longest tongue on a dog record. (Yes, this does exist and so does longest tail, number of balls caught with paws and balloons popped by a dog).

Measuring 7.31 inches in length, the dog, who hails from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, easily broke the previous record of 4.5 inches, which was held by a Pekingese named Puggy.

Owned by Carla and Craig Rickert, Mochi, or Mo, found her forever home at the age of 2. After being rescued by Big Dogs Huge Paws in Colorado, Carla knew she belonged with her family. It was “love at first sight,” she told Guinness World Records.

She, along with her daughter, drove 11 hours to meet Mochi – and drove 11 hours back, wit their new gentle giant in tow.

While her tongue is definitely a show stopper, having such a long appendage does have its challenges. For one, things get stuck to it all the time. Also, Mochi has extra drool and slobber when she gets nervous or scared. A super long tongue also makes it hard to breath at times and her owners must give her treats in a special way.

But besides her big tongue, Mochi is just an everyday “resilient, happy-go-lucky dog, with a big personality.” She loves hanging with her family, getting dressed up and having her pictures taken (which I am guessing occurs a lot).

“Mo is resilient, comical, loving and eternally grateful and loyal to us — her forever family,” says Rickert. “This once abused and neglected pup has taught us that it’s okay to be different. We are proud of her unique feature.”

Mochi is part of a new book, Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals, in which animals are showcased for their talents, quirks and uniqueness. It will not only feature the longest, tallest and fastest animals, but also those that are the most followed and pampered, among other achievements.

“It still does not seem real! Mochi is so humble, she never brags or boasts but I know that she is as proud of her new record as we are,” Rickert told Guinness.  “We are so grateful for the opportunity to make other’s smile.”
