With more than 66 percent of Americans considered obese or overweight and the rate for dogs looming around 52 percent, there is no better time than the present to get fit with your pooch. And fortunately, we have an event for you.
This Thursday kicks off the two-week Pet Fitness Challenge. Every day until Oct. 7, people looking to get into shape with their pup will receive daily fitness and health tips from experts and vets delivered to their inbox. There will also be prizes throughout the challenge for those that share their progress on social media using the hashtag #fitpetchallenge.

To get everyone pumped up, The Salty Paw in Manhattan’s Southern Seaport is hosting a free two-hour event to launch the national challenge. People, along with dogs, can head over to 38 Peck Slip and check out some adoptable dogs, chat with a vet, join a raffle and take a 20-minute K9 Fit Club demo class. Proceeds from some of the offerings will go to Foster Dogs NYC.
