Lisa Vanderpump put her money where her mouth is this week by opening up an animal shelter in Los Angeles.

Called Vanderpump Dogs, the 6000-square-foot gorgeous center is located near Beverly Hills. The atmosphere is what you would expect from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reality star.

With chandeliers, velvet couches, coffee tables and even a dog café, the center is fit for dog royalty. The comfortable, upscale atmosphere will hopefully relax both the dogs and the potential adopters to help both get acquainted with each other, and see if there is chemistry.

As a New Hope Partner, the center will be pulling dogs from the kill shelters in Los Angeles.

Once the dogs arrive at Vanderpump Dogs, they will receive a Vanderpump makeover, or be “Vanderpuffed,” to get them ready to find their forever home.

“We want to curb over population by rebranding the shelter dog and educated about spay/neutering,” John Blizzard, the event coordinator of Vanderpump Dog Foundation, tells This Dog’s Life.

Bedsides the adoption fee (currently $400) helping cover the costs of running the shelter, the center will also sell a range of products — everything from high-end luxury pet products to dog food — to benefit the organization. It will also offer full-service grooming and spa treatments.

Vanderpump really caught the animal-welfare big after hearing about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China, where people slaughter thousands of dogs in barbaric and extremely painful forms, believing the more abuse the dog endures, the better the meat will be.

“After that movement caught momentum and the foundation began to garner attention they saw the need for a place to further their mission statement,” says Blizzard. “The center was the obvious next step in creating a more humane world for dogs globally ”
