While his sister Kate may be the most well-known animal lover in the family, it is actually James Middleton who reigns top dog when it comes to being the ultimate pup parent.
And now he is going to teach us a trick or two about training our dogs.
In an Instagram video posted this week on his dog food company, Ella & Co, Middleton announced he is launching a series called “James’ Dog Training Tips.”

While he isn’t a certified dog trainer, he has had plenty of dogs to train and teach. He currently has a furry pack of lots of Spaniels and a Golden (Kate got both of her dogs from her brother’s litter.)
“Any dog owner knows the challenges of owning dogs and the mischief they can get up to and you’re not alone!” he wrote in the caption. “Whether it’s barking at the delivery driver, temporarily forgetting their name when called, raiding the bins or chasing a squirrel, I have experienced it all. So, each week I’m going to bring you a new training tip of how I train my dogs.”
A longtime dog lover, Middleton credits his pups for saving his life.
In a 2019 op-ed for the Daily Mail, Middleton opened up about his struggles with depression.
“I couldn’t communicate, even with those I loved best: my family and close friends,” Middleton wrote. “I know I’m richly blessed and live a privileged life. But it did not make me immune to depression. It is tricky to describe the condition. It is not merely sadness. It is an illness, a cancer of the mind.”
It was his dogs who helped him get through the darkness.
“I recognise, too, the role my dogs — Ella, Inca, Luna, Zulu and Mabel — have played in my recovery,” he wrote. “Ella, particularly, has been my constant companion for ten years and she’s been with me to all my therapy sessions. In her own particular way, she has kept me going.”
Middleton is looking to pay it back to our four-legged friends with not only training tips, but with Ella & Co, which is a raw dog food company.
