While many dogs and cats will have a warm place to lay their head this upcoming holiday season, thousands will still be looking for their forever home. San Francisco’s Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is looking to change that.

On Nov. 5, the organizations is holding its annual “A Home for the Holidays” gala to bring together animal lovers, while also raising money for the neediest animals in the shelter.

Starting at 6 pm, guests will get to enjoy an hour-long cocktail hour where they can mingle while checking out the silent auction. There are 163 items to bid on, including getaway packages, restaurant gift certificates and several items, like a 46-bottle wine cooler for the home.

People will then enjoy a fancy sit-down dinner. The meal includes an appetizer, salad and choice of a gourmet entree:  vegetarian butternut squash risotto, free range beef filet or a chicken dish. There will be wine and champagne flowing and the meal concludes with chocolate bananas for dessert.

After dinner, it is time for the live auction, where people can bid on such prizes as a trip to Mexico, a Cuvee Wine Cellars tasting party for 15 guests and 12-day cruise.

One of the main highlights of the event will be the”Fund-a-Need” initiative, where 10 dogs needing help are brought out. Donors can donate directly to the animals, and the goal is to raise $50,000.

“The love for all animals fills the room and many guests are inspired to donate to the amazing shelter animals,” says Nova Maldonado of PHS/SPCA.

Money raised during the entire event will go towards the organization’s Hope Program, which provides a second chance for the neediest shelter animals.

“Some animals arrive perfectly healthy and need nothing more than a new loving home, but many others need extra medical care, behavior training, or TLC before they can be placed into a new forever home,” says Maldonado.

As a nonprofit, open shelter, it takes in all animals, regardless of their age, size, temperament or behavior. The organization has rehomed 100 percent of healthy dogs and cats since 2003.

Tickets start at $150 and can be purchased through the organization’s website. The location is at the Crowne Plaza in Foster City. The address is 1221 Chess Dr.
