New Yorkers love to include their dogs in their daily routine. As a matter of fact, they’re treated as part of the family and join their humans in their celebrations, hanging out around the city and being part of shopping trips. Some bars and restaurants in the city now understand our close bond with our four-legged friend, and even allow you to bring your pup as your “plus one.”

But it isn’t’ all about experiences. New York City also provides an abundance of dog boutiques – delivering your pup the very best. Yet, with hundreds of dog brands out there, it can be hard to find the one that is truly the best. Dog parents seek out fashionable shops that feature unique designs, because they don’t want their dog to run into another dog wearing the same hoodie at the dog park. Fashion disaster.

As one of the most famous and fashionable dogs in NYC, Oscar, a French Bulldog who has more than 165,000 fans on Instagram, has some tips to help you find the best spots to shop or hang out with your dog in the city.

The celeb dog has made live appearances (and recommendations) on the Today Show, Fox, Huffington Post Live and been featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, along with articles from almost every magazine in the country.

He has worked on campaigns for companies such as Universal Pictures, Chase Bank, PetSmart, Penguin and Casper, among others.

This dog knows his stuff. He loves exploring the city — from Times Square to the top of the World Trade Center, and everywhere in between, including New York Fashion Week’s catwalk.

For those looking for some dog-friendly spots in the city, here are Oscar’s recommendations:

Great shopping spot: Dog & Co, Columbus Circle

Dog & Co’s flagship location at TurnStyle is our favorite dog shop in New York City. From harnesses to tees, hoodies and other essentials, their style is very fashionable, unique and fun. We specially love their button-down shirts, the perfect statement look for your dog to stand out. Most of their dog clothes look like they were made for people, and we love that!

Favorite spot to grab a beer: Lucky Dog Bar, Williamsburg

You can literally sit with your dog and enjoy a beer or a cocktail at Lucky Dog Bar. How amazing is that?! They have great craft beers and a nice outdoor patio. When we come, we love to chill at the small deck in the front, enjoying the great happy hour deals, while Oscar loves the bubble-gum machine in the corner that dispenses dog treats for free!

Best scenic view: Gantry Park, Long Island City

We love taking Oscar by the waterfront for photoshoots with stunning views of Manhattan. You can see most of Manhattan’s majestic buildings, plus enjoy the nice breeze by the water. And the dogs can run and play at the Hunters Point Park South Dog Run. There’s also an outdoor cafe called LIC Landing, where you can get a coffee, a beer or some wine to relax. Since the seating part is an open area, you can bring your dog with you.

Perfect place to play: Washington Square Park

All the cool dogs in NYC like to hang out at Washington Square Park. We love WSP because of its diversity. In the summer, it’s one of the best people-watching spots in the city, busy with musicians and street artists, plus tons of dogs on their walks. On weekends, don’t be surprised if you see a bunch of French bulldogs playing and lounging in the dog run, someone is probably hosting a meet up or dog birthday party.

Favorite local brand: French Bulldog Love

If you’re a French Bulldog obsessed, you must check out French Bulldog Love. The company specializes in fully-customizable, one-of-a-kind artwork and home decor for dog lovers, like blankets, mugs, totes, greeting cards and towel.  All of the concepts and designs are created in NYC and shipped from their studio.

Another amazing spot for photoshoots. You can spot Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, the beautiful Jane’s carousel and the city skyline, all at once. To get the best shots, you should come in the morning, when the sun is working in your favor. If your dog is athletic enough, you can also walk a few steps on the Brooklyn Bridge.
