With tennis numbers down, the sport is looking to shake things up a bit. And what better way, then to step up the competition. But this time it isn’t just the tennis players that are fighting to be top dog, rather the ball boys and girls are having to battle it out, too. Well, sort of.
In a friendly match in Auckland, New Zealand this week, Venus Williams played against two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova at the ASB Classic. But instead of the standard ball boy or girl racing frantically back and forth, three canine dogs (all up for adoption) quickly retrieved the balls off the court. And there was no messing around. Equipped with sweat bands, a Bull Mastiff named Oscar, a Jack Russell mix named Super Teddy and a Border Collie named Ted were very serious about their duties.
