Despite Being Attacked by a Dog, a Senior Pup Takes His Chances and Bravely Turns to Other Dogs for Help

|||||||||

While a senior dog was most likely attacked by a stray, it didn’t stop him from trusting in other pups to save his life.

Founder of Los Angeles-based animal organization Hope for Paws, Eldad Hagar, was in Costa Rica for a much needed vacation — but of course, he, along with his crew, ended up rescuing a few local dogs, one being an elder named Hank.

One evening while Hager and company were visiting the Costa Rica Dog Rescue, run by Scott Bradley, they were getting ready for a nice dinner out on town when they heard Bradley yell for help.  He had stumbled upon an animal in need.

“An injured dog somehow knew to walk the way up the mountain and come to the rescue center for help” a video of the rescue states. “It looked like Hank had been attacked by another animal.”

While some believe he was hurt by dogs, it was possibly the sound of pups at the rescue that motivated the senior to make the long trek up the mountaintop to the center.

“The craziest part is that he walked up there,” Hagar told The Dodo. “Somehow he knew to go to a place where there were barking dogs to get help, even though he’d likely just been attacked by a dog.”

They were able to calm Hank down and bring him inside the rescue center.  “We called the vet and he asked us to keep Hank comfortable until the morning” the video states.  They gave Hank a lot of love and attention that evening to make sure he felt safe.

That next morning Hank was in good spirits, wagging his tail and was driven to the local vet. During Hank’s examination, it was discovered that Hank was suffering from several infections–  including testing positive for heartworm — and required hospitalization.

During Hank’s stay at the clinic he was greeted by all the dogs at the hospital and they came over to check on him and cheer him up. He showed them his gratitude, being gentle to them all.

“He just licks all the dogs around him,” Hagar told the outlet. “He’s just so cool and such a special, special dog. Some dogs just have a very special impact on you and Hank is definitely one of those dogs.”

Hank is being fostered through Grand Paws Rescue in Los Angeles.  If you are interested in adopting Hank you can contact the Grand Paws Rescue to learn more.
