With warm weather just around the corner, Bobbi and the Strays is holding its “Ring in the Spring” benefit to raise money for its various rescue initiatives.

Held on March 9th at the Coral House, the fundraiser will provide food, fun and entertainment, while raising money to help animals in need.

The event kicks off at 7 p.m. and will include a buffet-style dinner of steak, chicken, vegetarian items, rice and pasta, among other yummy nibbles. Guests will also be treated to an ice cream bar and cocktail hour.

The Long Island-based organization will be holding a Chinese auction (people put purchased tickets in a jar and organizers draw a winner at the end). Prizes include crochet Afghan blankets, food items, gift certificates to the Circle Line and various restaurants across Long Island. In all, there will be between 40 and 45 baskets to available.

There will also be dancing and a chance to get to know other like-minded animal lovers. Tickets cost $75 and all proceeds will go towards helping the organization continue its mission of finding forever homes for the homeless animals on Long Island, while also continuing expanding outreach efforts in the community.

The organization was founded in 1998 by Roberta “Bobbi” Giordano, after she had witnessed a dog being struck by a car and the driver not stopping for him. She decided to quit her job and pursue her passion of helping stray animals in the New York City and Long Island area. The shelter is a nonprofit with “no-kill” policy. They rescue animals on the streets, from situations of abuse and neglect and from “death row.”

Throughout the years, Bobbi and the Strays have saved hundreds of animals, often dealing with extremely tough cases. For instance, the organization recently nursed back to health a 3-month-old pit bull named Copper, who was discovered on their doorsteps barely breathing and suffering from neglect and hypothermia.

The organization expects nearly 200 guests. If interested in attending the Ring in the Spring benefit head over to the Bobbi and the Strays website. The event is from 7 pm to 11 pm on March 9 at the Coral House (70 Millburn Ave., Baldwin, NY 11510).
