Mophie, the company behind the mobile battery packs, is teaming up with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to help those in distress: The attendees that can’t live without their phone.
The “mophieRescue” team will send out dogs equipped with a mophie power reserve to people needing a little extra juice for their mobile devices. The service will be availbe each day from 12 pm to 6 pm March 13 to 15.
While this seems a little ridiculous (does a company really need to use dogs as a ploy to market their service?), we give mophie props for also bringing awareness to the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation.
“We’ve activated at SXSW for several years and saving the batteries of attendees’ mobile devices has become our reputation during the week in Austin,” Ross Howe, mophie VP of Marketing said in a statement. “This year, we tossed in a new element and partnered with the National St. Bernard Foundation for some added assistance to our rescue efforts, while also making the adoption of these lovable dogs easy. The idea is: mophie and the St. Bernards save the people of SXSW. The people of SXSW save the St. Bernards.”

For those in need, attendees must tweet at @mophie using #mophieRescue with a screen grab or photo of the phone battery icon, along with the location. For those selected, mophie will send out a link to an interactive map, which shows the rescue dog in route. Once the St. Bernard arrives, the receiver gets a mophie product along with the opportunity to snap a picture with the dog.
All pups will be available for adoption at the mophieRescue Lodge.
“We’re thrilled to partner with mophie to help raise awareness and hopefully find safe and loving homes for these dogs,” said Olive Ashwell, Marketing Manager for the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation. “There’s a shared sense of passion between both our organizations as this amazing partnership launches at SXSW.”
