Actor Mickey Rourke may have his dogs to thank for saving his life.
During the L.A. screening of Eating Happiness Rourke spoke to reporters about his dogs and how they have helped him through extremely low points in his life.
“I was going through a really rough time,” he says. “I was hurting myself and I was sitting in the closet one day. I couldn’t take it anymore and picked up a gun.”

He continued, “I was deciding what part of my head to put it on and my dog, Beau Jack, he [cried] and I looked over and he looked up at me like this and … he said [with his eyes], ‘Who’s going to look after me?’ And it made me put the gun down. I was ready to go.”
This wasn’t the first time Rourke has spoken about his dogs. During his Golden Globes acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude for his pups — “the ones that are here and the ones that aren’t here anymore.” He has also posed with his Chihuahua Jaws in a PETA ad urging people to have their dogs spayed or neutered.
