The only open admissions shelter in New York City is rolling out the red carpet to help save more animals.

The Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is holding its annual gala dinner to express gratitude to supporters while raising funds for the upcoming year.

Held on Dec. 13 at The Lighthouse, a gorgeous venue on the Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, the night begins with a cocktail hour where people can chat with animal lovers, learn more about the program and see some of the adoptable animals the ACC has at its shelters.

After a bit a socializing, there will be a performance by Morgan James, a singer and songwriter who has appeared in Motown: The Musical, Godspell and The Addams Family.

During this time, people can also peruse items that will be in the silent auction, including tickets to Hamilton, a BAM showing and items from Missoni.

The night will conclude with a fancy dinner and presentation ceremony, where ACC will honor a few people who have made outstanding contributions to the organization and the animal-welfare world. Georgina Bloomberg, daughter of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, artist Hunt Slonem and Dr. Dennis and Carrie Gross will be recognized for their tireless work rescuing animals, both big and small.

Funds from the event will go towards the ACC’s continued efforts to save as many animals as possible. “2016 was a great year for ACC having reached a placement rate of close to 90 percent, the highest in our history and the highest in the nation for a shelter of our size,” says Katy Hansen, the ACC’s marketing and communications manager. She also noted a big achievement this year was the opening of a backyard at the Manhattan location.

Hansen adds that this coming year, the ACC is going to work on keeping pets out of the shelter.

“Our focus for 2017 and beyond is to help pets stay with their families,” she says. “We will do this through our innovative programs including the implementation of pet surrender counseling, community outreach and more wellness clinics in underserved communities.”

Again, the event is on Dec. 13 at The Lighthouse, located at Pier 61 at 23rd St. and West Side Highway. Ticket information can be found on the ACC website.
